A remote interview tests the same role-related evidence as an in-person interview, but it also reveals how you communicate and handle technology. Preparation reduces avoidable distractions and gives you more attention for the conversation.

Research the role and organisation
Read the vacancy again and identify the three outcomes the employer appears to care about most. Review the organisation’s official website, products, customers and recent public information. Prepare a clear explanation of why this role makes sense for you.
Prepare evidence, not memorised slogans
Select four or five examples covering problem-solving, teamwork, a mistake, a difficult deadline and a result relevant to the role. Structure each answer around the situation, your responsibility, the actions you personally took and the outcome.
Test the interview setup
Test the exact meeting application, camera, microphone, internet connection and charging cable. Rename your meeting profile professionally and know how to reconnect from a phone if your primary connection fails.
- Join five to ten minutes early.
- Use headphones when they improve sound quality.
- Place the camera near eye level.
- Close notifications and unrelated applications.
- Keep the recruiter’s contact details available.
Choose a suitable environment
Use the quietest available space with light facing you rather than behind you. Tell people nearby when the interview will happen. Keep your CV, vacancy and brief notes nearby, but do not read scripted answers.
Close the conversation professionally
Prepare thoughtful questions about priorities, success measures, team communication and next steps. After the interview, send a concise thank-you message that confirms your interest and refers to an important part of the discussion.
